Originally from Brighton, England, Ruth Allen, 35, currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia where she is the Curator of Greek and Roman Art at the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University. She has her B.A. and Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Cambridge, England.
Although she has been an avid commuter by bike since college (even when living in Los Angeles and in Atlanta), Ruth didn’t begin cycling competitively until 2021. She has, however, always relished sports that partner power with rhythm and finesse: she was a ballet-dancer from age 4 to 18, ran track at county level through high school, and then rowed for Emmanuel Boat Club and Cambridge University Boat Club through college and graduate school.
Transitioning from racing boats to racing bikes was an obvious next step. Ruth’s first road race was in May 2021, and by May 2022 she was a Cat 2, following wins at multiple races across the southern United States – including lapping the field at her first Athens Twilight in 2022. She is excited to build on this foundation with Goldman Sachs ETFS Racing in 2023!
When she isn’t on the bike or in the museum, Ruth loves live music, painting, going to art galleries, and eating.
